The Cinematic Headshot by Dylan Patrick

A Review

"The Cinematic Headshot" by Dylan Patrick on www.fstoppers.com is one of the best tutorials I have ever purchased. As I mentioned in my previous post, I struggled to get incredibly-looking headshots. I was unable to get the “wow” factor in my images. After purchasing this tutorial, I was able to produce amazing cinematic headshots, turning my clients into movie stars.

Dylan starts his tutorial with an introduction about himself and how he got into the business of headshot photography.

Later, he shows the gear he uses to capture his cinematic headshots. I was amazed at the simplicity of his equipment and how you can create great cinematic headshots with any budget and easily achieve similar results.

He afterward goes on to a live photoshoot. He explains how he scouts a location and assembles the gear to photoshoot the subject/model.

He goes beyond that into three other live photoshoots. He explains the difference between various zoom lenses and what each can achieve in terms of cinematic headshot. He also explains different scenarios in which you can achieve cinematic headshots.

He subsequently explains how he composes his images. This chapter is one of the most valuable topics in this tutorial because composition is one of the most challenging topics to master.

After that, he does a full photoshop retouching that is easy to follow. He included RAW files of his photoshoots so you can follow along for practice.

I learned from him that you don’t need a studio to get great results, and you can achieve great results almost anywhere in the world for the world is your studio.

The tutorial is highly recommended for photographers interested in creating something unique for their portfolios.

Here are some of the results that I achieved after purchasing his tutorial.

After learning and understanding his lighting techniques, I implemented his techniques indoors and achieved excellent results.
