I've always been a fan of 007, the iconic MI6 field agent with a license to kill. Who doesn't love him, right? Inspired by James Bond, I set out to create a striking cinematic image with a low-key, high-contrast aesthetic. I envisioned a slash of light dramatically illuminating my friend, Ali AlKhayat, adding a sense of mystery and intrigue to the scene. With limited time and equipment, I had to get creative. I decided to use a Speedlight without any modifiers. Later, I digitally added the slash of light in Adobe Photoshop, and it turned out perfectly!
It's always better to create lighting effects naturally to achieve the true colour gradient and feel of the image, similar to what cinematographers do. However, desperate times call for desperate measures.
