Portrait photography workshop, led by professional portrait photographer Andrew Mason, in London
Written on the 31st of July, 2021
Workshops, especially those led by expert photographers, offer a unique and immersive learning environment. I had the opportunity to participate in a portrait photography workshop with the renowned Andrew Mason during my visit to London.
I learned a lot about portrait photography. One great thing about workshops is that you gain extensive knowledge not only from the instructor but also from fellow photographers, each of whom has their own artistic vision. It's an excellent way to build long-lasting friendships.
Before the workshop, photographer Andrew Mason recommended an excellent portrait lens: the 85mm. Thankfully, I had one with me.
The day kicked off with a brief introduction, setting the stage for a hands-on learning experience. We had the chance to practice with each other before moving on to photograph the models. I even had the opportunity to capture some stunning shots of a fellow photographer, Benjamin Timothy Finch. As the day unfolded, our photography skills were put to the test, and we all rose to the challenge, producing increasingly outstanding results.
Our workshop took us on a photographic adventure, visiting three distinct locations. We explored a natural setting, an urban backdrop, and a dark setting, where we experimented with an off-camera flash. Each location presented its own set of challenges and learning opportunities, making the workshop a genuinely diverse and enriching experience.
We learned how to capture personality and character for natural portraits. We practiced composition skills for portraits, using both natural light and flash. We learned how to work with reflectors to enhance natural light.
